The Archives – The Lyric Book “Screws Loose”

A few years back, I was in a band called “Iz’em”. This song is about what happens when you are attracted to people who are….a bit not right in the head. And then after a while, when you’re honest with yourself…you realize you are also a bit….not right. Maybe we all just have a couple screws loose.

Screws Loose – Version 1

The sheet’s flutter down, swimming a satin sea
To and fro we roll and play carelessly
We broke the bed and laughed at 45 degrees
I check the damage below

It’s just a couple of screws loose
Not that big of a deal
Just a couple of screws loose
A small fix for having certain type of appeal

She goes out to hunt us down a snack
She whispers in my ear “I’ll be right back”
I feel a sharp pain in my head and everything goes black
I hear “I think I’ll keep you”

My fantsasy of being bound and gagged in a darkened room
Is not as nearly as fun when it actually comes true
Wonderning if she’s returning soon
Should I make lemonade or try and escape?

It’s just a couple of screws loose
Not that big of a deal
Just a couple of screws loose
A small fix for having certain type of appeal

I writhe out of my constraints
Out the door by the corner store to 12th and 8t
Round the block to my freedom and directly ahead
She’s standing there holding an oversized bag from Panera Bread

Screws Loose – Version 2

Even if they have the most beautiful of faces
I know why you don’t go into stranger’s places
You might have fun, you might hook up, you might break the bed
And you might awake bound and gagged inside her basement

A bed frame is easy, I said, I think that I can fix it
Im not really a handyman but I’ve me a minute
Rummaging through her toolbox and exposing my back
The last thoughts through my head before everything went black

It’s just a couple of loose screws
Its not that big of a deal
It’s just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of screws

I gloss over everything, I tend to presume
I missed every red flag inside of this woman’s room
The duct tape by the window, the Hello Kitty bedsheets
So Im about to die full of the words I’m about to eat

It’s just a couple of loose screws
Its not that big of a deal
It’s just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of screws

I somehow managed writhing out all of my constants
and scramble through the door and down to 12th and 48th
Sprinting around the block to my freedom off ahead
Face first into her and paralyzed with dread

Holding out the food she was bringing back to her kidnap-ee
I can’t help but listen to the sadistic side of me

It’s just a couple of loose screws
Its not that big of a deal
It’s just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of screws

Screws Loose – Version 3

The sheets fluttered down, we swam a satin sea
we kissed and rolled and played carelessly
We broke her bed and kissed and laughed and laid there for a minute
I told her Im not a handyman but I think I can fix it

just a couple of loose screws
not that big of a deal
just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of loose screws

I lean down to check and fix this little setback
The next thing I knew everything else went black
I awoke bound and gagged with a bow on top of my head
This woman needs to fix a lot more than just her bed

I somehow manage writhing out all of my constants
and scramble through the door and down to 12th and 48th
Holding out the food she was bringing back to her kidnap-ee
I can’t help but listen to the sadistic side of me

just a couple of loose screws
not that big of a deal
just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of loose screws

I gloss over everything and can’t help but presume
I missed every red flag inside of this woman’s room
The duct tape by the window, the Hello Kitty bedsheets
The empty bag of marbles sitting seemingly symbolically
Although there’s not a toolshed in the world that could fix this chic
If you ran a scan you’d probably find I was diagnosed with the same malfunctions

just a couple of loose screws
not that big of a deal
just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of loose screws

Screws Loose – Final Version

The sheets were a mess,
we’re covered in sweat,
I’m wondering what’s the catch
She did an awful lot of baby talk,
but I thought I could live with that

Mind at ease,
at 45 degrees
on her recently broken bed
But ten minutes later I awoke
bound and gagged down in her basement

Cuffed to a pole,
yelling from below,
I jumped the gun too soon
I also think I missed a few red flags
inside of this woman’s room

The Hello Kitty drapes
The dolls in a cage,
How’d I not know that she was insane
I was too concerned trying to be her
handyman and reattach the bed frame

just a couple of loose screws
not that big of a deal
just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of loose screws

After almost giving up,
I Houdini the cuffs
and writhe out of my constraints
I scramble up the stairs and head out the door to 12th and 48th

Rounding the block,
racing the clock,
I run face first into you know who
she says “aw, does my baby want to play peekaboo”!
Let’s go back to my place, I’ll give you everything you need
I can’t help but listen to the sadistic side of me

It’s just a couple of loose screws
Its not that big of a deal
It’s just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of screws

I don’t think there’s any tool equipped to fix this chic
But getting myself into this I must be just an idiot
I said “So what the hell, let’s go back and lay there with our threads stripped”
If you ran a scan you’d probably find I was diagnosed with the same malfunctions

It’s just a couple of loose screws
Its not that big of a deal
It’s just a couple of loose screws
Just a couple of screws
